Ambition Designer
Why Ambition Designer?
Documented pressure for change does not yet answer how far an organization should actually develop. Between necessary adaptation and maximum transformation lies a company-specific scope for decision-making. Strategies often fail when this scope is not explicitly defined: Either they fall short of objective requirements, or they formulate target visions that are not achievable politically, organizationally, or in terms of resources.
The Ambition Designer structures this decision along the three separate perspectives of Must, Want and Can.
Must describes what movement is required by pressure for change, obligations or critical maturity gaps. Want captures what change management is actually aiming for and with what mandate, what level of commitment and which accepted trade-offs this intention is backed. Can assesses which personnel, financial, technological and organizational prerequisites are in place to implement the intended change within the planned timeframe.
The three perspectives are deliberately not combined into an overall score. Their differences are strategically relevant: A high Must with low Can indicates a capacity or capability bottleneck, a high Want without a sufficient mandate indicates political overreach, and a high Can with low Want indicates a deliberate limitation of ambition.
The Ambition Designer makes these tensions visible and brings them to an explicit management decision. This creates a realistically substantiated ambition framework that neither relativizes the pressure for change nor confuses feasibility with arbitrariness and serves as a binding basis for the later definition of the target vision.
Bundled expertise
The Ambition Designer assesses Must, Want and Can separately and makes trade-offs, capability bottlenecks and mandate gaps visible.
The result is a substantiated ambition framework that brings together necessary change, management intent and realistic feasibility.
